Bicycle Tail Lights and Other Accessories
Tail Lights
Most bikers use a standard xenon strobe light as their tail light. This small apparatus can be set to either standard or blinking and the colored light can be seen for up to 2 miles. This is an inexpensive way to ensure that passing motorists will most definitely notice your presence.
A HELMET!
How much can it be stressed that a helmet is a necessary devil to endure while biking? Most biking accidents involve the head and wearing a helmet exponentially increases your chances of surviving an accident. If it so harms your ego to have to wear a helmet, what about purchasing a custom made model? That's right, you can purchase a helmet in a certain color or shape, and even have sayings or pictures added to it. The next time someone sees you pedaling down the street with your red helmet emblazoned with "Stan the Biking Man" they may just look at helmets in an all new light.
Gloves
While cyclists in an urban environment have less of a need for gloves, mountain bikers see them as a necessity. These accessories will keep your hands dry and uninjured while biking through the rigorous environment. Twigs, pine cones, and flying gravel can all do damage to your hands, but with the proper gloves, you can save your hands from this beating.
Shoes
Wearing the proper shoes can greatly impact your bike riding experience. You are going to need a shoe with plenty of tread to keep your feet from slipping off the pedals. It is also helpful to have a shoe recommended for walking or running in case an accident occurs and your bike is damaged. That way if you have to walk for a long distance your feet won't suffer.
Eye Protection
Whether you are biking in the city or in the mountains, it is important to protect your eyes. In the city flying debris and pollution can make your eyes sting and burn. In the mountains tree limbs and rocks are potential dangers. Something as simple as a pair of sun glasses with maximum coverage is a great way to protect your eyes from both sun damage and other dangers.
Repair Kits
Every cyclist should have a repair kit with them whenever you ride. Items such as a tire tube, pump, and other tools ensure that you will be able to fix small problems if they should crop up. Nearly all of these repair items should fit in a back pack with other necessary items like water, a first aid kit, and extra socks.
